New to the world of Ux design yet my work history has always had a focus on User Experience. For the last 15 years I've work in the hospitality industry in Chicago, IL as a bartender, the last 4 as a bar manager. The more I dive into the world of Ux design the more I see similarities in bartending. Empathy is a huge factor in both, being able to know what is needed and being able to deliver the experience is crucial to success. Also, similar to design, keeping up with current trends in the world of your field will keep your work fun, fresh & engaging. I've loved my work as a bartender & am excited to continue to grow & learn more as a Ux designer to provide a wonderful experience with every project I get to be a part of.
How I got started in user experience
I've loved my work as a bartender in the hospitality industry but sadly once becoming a manager there isn't much growth beyond that role. Meeting that reality with the devastation the 2020 pandemic placed on the hospitality industry, I realized it was time for a career change. The more I looked into Ux design the more similarities I saw in hospitality. Having a passion for creating memorable experiences for people in your line of work is essential. I'm very excited to learn more on how to do just that in my new career.
What I've been working on
I just recently finished the Google certification Ux design course as well a Udemy course in Figma, Adobe XD & a course in motion design. I always have a curious mind & cannot wait to learn more.
What I'm curious about
People. I am a social creature & am absolutely fascinated with humans. The running phrase with bartenders is, "If you've worked a year as a bartender you have a make shift degree in psychology." Human connection is such a strong beautiful thing & I know that part of my success as a bartender in Chicago is my ability to connect with people & give them a memorable experience. I'm excited to create memorable experiences through my design work in the future.
